What is Fine Art Pet Photography?
Let's be real: "fine art" can be a pretty stuffy term.
It tends to conjure images of people in black turtlenecks staring at a splotchy canvas in a gallery while pretending they understand what's going on.
Yeah..that's not what we do here.
When we talk about fine art pet photography at our Los Angeles studio, we're not talking about making things complicated or intimidating. At Shuttermutt Photo, it simply comes down to intention and passion.
We don't care about taking a photo of your pet. We care about creating the portrait of your pet that completely encapsulates who they are. The one that makes you instantly say, "That’s my baby!"
Maybe that's your dog's goofy grin and your cat's searing look of judgment. Or that expression your family laughs at every day but can somehow never capture in phone photos!
Our goal is to create a portrait that immediately makes you smile because it feels exactly like them.
Fine art starts before the camera comes out
Our artistic process begins well before your pet’s photo session.
During our phone consultation, we’ll first learn all about your pet and your relationship. What do you love most about them? What expressions make you say, "That's so them"? What would mean the most to you in their photos?
Those conversations help shape everything that follows.
While in the studio, it might not be obvious to you, but your portrait will be the result of hundreds of hours spent testing cameras, lighting, and techniques that help us capture animals authentically and with sharp-as-a-tack images. We want you to remember the little details of every smile and whisker on your pet’s face.
We’ve also designed our private studio to feel like a cozy home that just happens to have a gallery and photography setup. Every part of the experience is designed to help pets feel comfortable enough to show us who they really are. We don’t force moments; we simply create the environment where authentic moments can happen naturally, then we capture what unfolds!
The experience matters just as much
One of the things we hear most often from clients is how much they loved the experience itself, not just the artwork they took home.
That's because every step of our process is tailored to your family and home…and it’s just flat out fun! The photo session is a complete celebration of what makes your pet unique. Taking photos together as a family feels relaxed, sincere, and authentic.
When it comes to designing your custom artwork, every decision is made with our guidance and support, from background color selections and photo compositions to artwork size and museum-quality framing. And as we virtually design your wall art to scale using photos of your home’s walls, you’ll see how that the portraits you’re investing in bring out the best in both your pet and your home. The whole process is easy, fun, and incredibly meaningful.
The portraits you'll never stop looking at
At the end of the day, fine art isn't really about being fancy or complicated. It's about caring enough to create something thoughtfully, knowing the final product should be as unique, special, and valuable as the family member it honors. It’s about creating something you’ll love seeing every day, even twenty years down the road.
Long after thousands of photos on your phone have disappeared into the camera roll, it's the photo album on your coffee table, or the framed portrait on your wall that remind you not just of what your pet looked like, but exactly who they were.
The one that immediately makes you smile because it feels exactly like them.
Looking for pet portraits in Los Angeles?
Every fine art pet portrait we create starts with a conversation. If you'd like to learn more about the experience, schedule a free phone consultation. We'd love to hear all about your pet and help you explore what's possible.
We all had an amazing time!
Prior to the session, they were very communicative and helped me pre-pick background colors that would go well with my room…It was very helpful that they had software that gave a rendering of what the photos would look like on my actual wall with varying sizes/layouts. I ended up getting 2 acrylic pieces for my wall and a photo album. Everything was super high quality, and I'm so thrilled to have beautiful artwork of my babies to keep forever. Thank you Adam and Laura for this wonderful gift!!
